Where in the Park

The skippers meetings will be held near the boat launch. There's generally plenty of room in the parking lot by the launch ramp, so you can leave your car there during the races (park near the back of the lot, so you don't block the ramp).

The campfires and semi-pot-luck dinner are usually held on an OMDA member's campsite. We won't know whose until people know where they're staying. Ask while everybody is still gathered at the boat launch area. If not, try looking around for familiar faces in the radio-free section of West Campground B, as this is where we usually try to camp. Don't bother asking the park staff where the OMDA events are: you'll just get a puzzled look.

Camp or Day Trip

Typically, about half the participants will camp for the weekend, while the rest will stay for the day and return home to sleep, especially if they live close by. Most of the campers will arrive on Friday evening. Day trippers are welcome to attend the dinner on Saturday evening, and to stay for the campfire.

If you're camping, you can reserve a campsite via the Ontario Parks website. However, the park is usually pretty empty this time of year, and a reservation isn't generally needed. If you do reserve, aim for a campsite in the radio free section of West Campground B, as this is where most OMDA members try to get their sites.

Sailing Conditions

If there are strong winds, especially from the north, then be prepared for some large waves. Lake Simcoe is quite shallow, so the waves build up pretty fast. In light winds, you must watch out for currents, as these can be surprisingly large off Sibbald Point. As for medium winds, we're not sure that has ever happened at Sibbald!
