Much as we wish it were, OMDA isn't just all fun and sailing. We have to get together to take care of business and make sure the many behind the scenes tasks get done so we can continue to have fun sailing and socializing.
Annual General Meetings (or AGMs) are held once a year, and all OMDA members are encouraged to attend. In recent years the AGM has usually been held on the Saturday evening of the Labour day long weekend at Belwood Lake Sailing Club, since many OMDA members camp at Belwood for the weekend in order to attend the annual Derek Clay Single-Handed Regatta.
The AGM gives the executive a chance to report to the membership about the years activities. It allows the executive to get feedback from the OMDA membership about issues where this is needed, and for OMDA members to raise issues that they feel the executive has been ignoring. And, of course, the AGM is where the OMDA membership elects a new president and executive committee for the following year.
The president and executive committee that were elected at the AGM meet regularly during the year to organize OMDA's activities. In addition, the executive committee appoints some volunteers.
